Dr. Celine Godin honored by The Maine Cancer Foundation
SCARBOROUGH, ME (October 4, 2007)--Spectrum Medical Group is pleased to announce that radiation oncologist Celine M. Godin, M.D. received the Medical Care and Research Award from the Maine Cancer Foundation (MCF). The award, which was presented at MCF’s 6th annual Cure Breast Cancer for ME luncheon on October 1st, is presented to a health care professional or organization of healthcare professionals who go above and beyond the call of duty to make a positive contribution to, or difference in, the treatment of breast cancer by: increasing knowledge or treatment through research; improving patient care/treatment/support; and increasing awareness, education and advocacy for breast cancer in Maine. Dr. Godin was recognized in part for her leadership in bringing MammoSite partial breast irradiation treatment to Maine, a form of radiation therapy that reduces radiation treatment time for some breast cancer patients from seven weeks to five days. Additionally, patients and colleagues highlighted her compassion and caring for the “whole person”, and her ability to work closely with both Maine Medical Center and Mercy Hospital staffs to ensure that all breast cancer patients receive quality care. Dr. Godin, who is board certified in Radiation Oncology, has been on the staff of Spectrum Medical Group since July of 1999. Spectrum Medical Group is Maine's largest multi-specialty, physician owned and directed professional organization, comprised of nearly 150 physicians practicing in the areas of anesthesiology, pain management, pathology, radiology, and radiation therapy. Spectrum provides services at many hospitals throughout Maine and in eastern New Hampshire.
